Author rights to deposit manuscripts and published articles in institutional, funder, and subject repositories. No embargo period applies.
Authors may deposit any version of their manuscript — the preprint, the accepted manuscript, or the version of record — in an institutional repository, a subject repository, a funder repository, or on a personal or laboratory website, at any time.
The manuscript as submitted, before peer review. Preprints may be posted on a preprint server or in a repository before or during submission to the journal, and may remain online after publication. Preprint versions should be labelled as a preprint that has not been peer reviewed, and should not use the journal's final layout or branding.
The peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication, before copyediting and typesetting. It may be deposited immediately upon acceptance, with no embargo. The deposit should state that the manuscript has been accepted for publication in Head and Neck Diseases Conflux, and should be updated with the article's DOI and full citation once the article is published.
The final published article, including its DOI. Because articles are published under CC BY 4.0, the version of record may also be deposited in any repository without permission, for any lawful purpose, provided the source is attributed.
Head and Neck Diseases Conflux applies no embargo period. Authors do not need to wait after acceptance or after publication before depositing their work, and the journal does not ask repositories to delay release of any deposited version.
Because deposit may take place immediately, this policy places no obstacle in the way of funder or institutional deposit requirements.
Deposited copies should always cite the published article and link to it through its DOI, rather than through a direct file address. Every article published in the journal is assigned a DOI registered with Crossref under the journal's prefix 10.71321; the DOI is shown on the article page and in the article PDF, and resolves through the https://doi.org/ resolver.
A DOI remains stable if the journal's web address or platform changes, so a citation that includes the DOI continues to lead readers to the definitive version of an article.
Deposited copies should make clear which version of the work a reader is looking at, so that a preprint or accepted manuscript is not mistaken for the final published article:
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, and authors retain copyright in their own work. The licence permits anyone to read, download, store, copy, and redistribute the published article — including for commercial purposes and including in any repository — provided the work is attributed to its authors and source.
Repository deposit is therefore permitted by the licence itself. Authors do not need written consent from the journal or the publisher to archive any version of their manuscript. Further information on permitted reuse of previously published text and on the handling of preprints is set out in the journal's Publication Ethics policy.
Questions about repository deposit, version labelling, or funder requirements are welcome.
